Newborn Dolphin Spotted in Anlong Kampi, Kratie Province

PHNOM PENH, April 23, 2024 — A newborn dolphin was recently observed in Anlong Kampi, Chroy Banteay village, Chroy Banteay commune, Prey Prosop district, Kratie province, bringing a wave of excitement to conservation efforts in the region. The sighting was confirmed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, alongside the Fisheries Administration and researchers from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The young dolphin was spotted at 15:10 on April 22, 2024, swimming alongside a group of three adult dolphins.

This sighting marks the seventh newborn dolphin reported in the area since the start of 2024, indicating positive signs for the conservation of these endangered creatures. The Fisheries Administration expressed gratitude towards the river communities, local authorities, and citizens for their ongoing support and protection of the local fishery resources, which have contributed to the successful increase in dolphin births this year.

The Fisheries Administration also encourages any fishermen who encounter dolphins to report their sightings to the authorities to assist in tracking and conservation efforts.
